That's right, if it wasn't for Chris Precopia's overzealous Facebooking mother, Chris may have been charged with a crime he never committed. Boomers can say what they want about technology in the end, this is pretty awesome.
Chris Precopia, was arrested Sept. 22, 2017, following a statement from his ex-girlfriend telling police that Precopia had attacked her in her home and carved an 'X' into her neck using a box-cutter.
The thing is, Precopia didn't do it, and he had proof.
Precopia's ex-girlfriend explained to police that Precopia had forced his way into her house, assaulted her by pushing her to the ground, punching and kicking her and ended the attack by slicing her neck and leaving a lone 'X' carved into her skin.
After being given minimal information from police, Precopia was taken into custody and questioned for hours about the alleged attack. Precopia was completely confused by the allegations and denied his guilt claiming he knew nothing of the attack.
Precopia's parents posted $150,000 bond and organized a lawyer to help their son prove his innocence, but in the end, it was Precopia's mom who would have the vital evidence she needed to exonerate her son.
It was a selfie taken on September 20, 2017 at the Renaissance Austin Hotel at 7.02pm.
Precopia's ex-girlfriend had stated to police that the attack had occurred at 7.20pm on Sept. 20, 2017 at her home which was 70 miles from the Renaissance Austin Hotel.
The selfie was dated and time-stamped, there was no way Chris could have committed the assault during the time his ex-girlfriend alleged.
Precopia's lawyer, Rick Flores explained that Precopia was very fortunate that his accuser chose a date and time that he had such a solid and convincing alibi for. He went on to say that he and Chris had talked at length about how lucky Chris was regardless of if you believe in a higher power or just good luck.
Flores went on to discuss that if Precopia's ex had claimed that the attack had occurred just a day prior, his client’s only alibi would have been that he was at home watching TV, likely alone. This would have been far more difficult to prove.
Precopia's charges were dropped on the 21st of June after the selfie evidence from his mother was presented to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office along with cell-phone records and time stamps.
So the next time your mom or grandma ask you to pose for that family selfie, remember it might just be your get out of jail free card!
